Self Respect as a Discipline

The effect of Didion’s literary allusion can be either helpful or alienating to the reader of her essay. If they have not ever read any of the pieces that she mentioned in her essay, then they would be very much confused about what she is talking about. But if the reader has happened to read the pieces, then they would be useful and would be considered common knowledge to the reader.
One example in the essay that Didion talks about is “self respect is something that our grandparents, whether or not they had it, knew all about.” She is implying that everyone knew about self respect, but they did not necessarily have to have it. What we make of the statement about committing adultery and “courage of our mistakes”, etc., is that we could have self respect one way or another. We could have it by not admitting that we did something wrong and running to someone to tell them what we did and asking for them to show us pity and for forgiveness. We could also have self respect by admitting to our mistakes but understanding the anger and disappointment that is directed to us from it, and accepting the fact that we did something wrong.
Her statements about self respect being a discipline and so forth are connected to writing and things of the like because you have to develop your writing skills. You have to learn about the subjects you write about and you have to work yourself to have those good writing skills, just like you have to work yourself to have the good self respect that you gain through a lifetime of experience.

So I have the assignment, but don't know the first thing about making it perfect for my teacher. HELP!!!

To be honest, I'm not quite sure how many times I look over my papers. I tend to just read over them constantly just to make sure I have everything just the way I like them. To me, the benefits of looking over my work a million times are endless. I could see things that I missed the previous times I've looked at them. I could have a new comment I want to stick here and there. Really, they are totally endless.
I could apply the "Consider the Evidence" part to my paper by maybe doing as much research as I can on the subject, just to see what I do and don't already know. Then I could use that information along with the common sense and natural knowledge of the subject to put together my Argument from Personal Experience paper.
There were many useful things to me in the Analysis section of the reading. But the whole analyzing thing in general kind of confuses me, so that would be definitely be something to talk about in class.
Some similarities that I see in the Rubric and that particular section are that the three basic characteristics are almost the same as what is expected in an outstanding type of paper. The only thing I noticed that was different was that in the Rubric it doesn't mention anything about reason over emotion or anything of that sort, but I guess it's because it's an argumentative paper, and not so much an opinion paper.

World View Benefits, Arguments, and Reasons

There are so many different benefits to drafting our papers with out world views leading our thought processes. They could help make our papers better; to give our opinions on the things we believe and see. If anything, it would help the teachers and professors to understand what kinds of views the students have, and possibly open them up to new ideas. They could use these views as examples for other prompts in different classes, or uses the papers as readings for the students. These sorts of things could help the students get used to writing about world views and then the professors could begin to open them up to new ideas and views.

Bizzel is right to the extent that academic world views and world views cannot coexist together. Sure, the students know their world views from younger ages, but they do need to move up in their views. Getting new ideas and learning about what is going on in this day and this time is still a good thing. We students cannot just focus on the past and what we learned back then. We need to be opened up to other bigger views.
Then again, students should keep their old world views during and after college to have a history of what they believe and know. It could be useful when writing a term paper or when having an intellectual conversation with someone who may have the same views or would like to be informed of someone else’s perspective. Students should also keep the new world views and the old ones too and not forget what was before and it could someday help them in the future when analyzing their new world views.

My Bio

My name is Aimee LeBlanc. I'm an anthropology major. I am from Lafayette originally and because of my family, I was nomadic for a while, so I have lived lots of places in south LA. I currently live in Sunset with my boyfriend and his parents due to certain circumstances that went on this past summer. So far its been pie for me. My mom attended UL when she was younger and she had the exact same professor in Anthropology as I do now, Professor Cring. He's really cool and ADD--just like me. I don't talk to my dad. He's been MIA for the last ten years of my life. I work at Mr. Gattis in Opelousas as an assistant manager and I intend to remain there throughout college. Yes, the gas is unbelieveable, but every day is worth the drive (despite the drama). Spare time is not a good thing for me to have. Ever. I'll either clean the whole house or I'll sleep my day away until it is time for school or work. I love just about all music. But no Reggae and Bluegrass or Opera. That stuff just puts me to sleep or gives me a headache. I'll eat just about anything you put on a plate, but that does not include brussel sprouts, mustard greens, collard greens or eggplant in its simplest form. Nope. Not gonna happen. I'm a random person. Yes I can be a little strange but that is one of my best qualities. I'm honestly hoping to improve in writing stuff in general, so I pray to get the most out of this class. Papers aren't my thing, but I'll get over it eventually.
