Bizzel is right to the extent that academic world views and world views cannot coexist together. Sure, the students know their world views from younger ages, but they do need to move up in their views. Getting new ideas and learning about what is going on in this day and this time is still a good thing. We students cannot just focus on the past and what we learned back then. We need to be opened up to other bigger views.
Then again, students should keep their old world views during and after college to have a history of what they believe and know. It could be useful when writing a term paper or when having an intellectual conversation with someone who may have the same views or would like to be informed of someone else’s perspective. Students should also keep the new world views and the old ones too and not forget what was before and it could someday help them in the future when analyzing their new world views.
Good response. I agree that we need to learn new ideas, while also remembering what we learned in the past. If we do this then we can tailor our viewpoints as necessary. The only negative thing i have to say is that you didn't really mention the author's ideas that much.
